Probably both! I finally got all my yarn organized yesterday. It only took…oh…about 10 hours! Nope….not kidding!! The way it was organized before (by color) wasn’t really working so I had to figure out a different method. It is now organized by texture and fiber (i.e. bumpy vs smooth, thin vs thick, shiny vs matte etc). I also made up a tub of yarn to be used for baby items. I know this borders on OCD but it really helps cut down the time of sorting through the yarn for my next project. I also changed up the way I store my wips (crochet lingo for work-in-progress). The wip and it’s yarn go into a clear container/bag and are placed in front in the closet so that I will remember that I have other projects to finish and go through those first before I start a new one. There is really no particular way to decide which project to work on at any given time (unless there is a time deadline). It’s just whatever artistic mood you are in at the moment.

This has probably been one of the most boring posts I put out there unless you too are a craft-aholic. For those of you who aren’t…I have posted the following two pictures. That way…at least this boring read will have pictures you can look at!

Before the new re-org….

And after….

Now…on to organizing the sewing side of me…..(groan)……

I stumbled on this really cool craft room at modishhandmade.com I would LOVE to have a craft space like this one. It is light and airy while still maintaining control over the messiness crafting can create! Most people make the mistake of wanting bright and cute bins because they add so much color to any room. However, see-through containers save you time by being able to see what’s in them at a glance. The bright red, polka dotted cloth “door” is PERFECT for adding the splash of color needed to make this room inspiring and FUN at the same time.

Right now I’m using our loft and while the light and space is really great, I hate using a space that is supposed to be a quiet little “get-away” space for our guests. Plus…sewing is really messy! (At least it is when I do it!) I also love having so many containers for all the little stuff. Sewing has a lot of little stuff and so does crochet. I’ve started putting things in the zipper bags that sheets, curtains etc. come in. They actually work pretty well. I’m using a card table for my sewing machine. The surface is fine but because it is light weight, it bounces if I sewing anything to fast!

How do you store your crafty “stuff”? I’d love to know your organizing secrets!
